Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage, Explained

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an alternative way to receive your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits through a private insurer approved by Medicare. Plans may bundle prescription drug coverage and extra benefits, but costs, networks, and rules vary.

What to compare

Look beyond the monthly premium. Review the provider network, drug formulary, maximum out-of-pocket limit, referrals, prior authorization rules, and how your regular care is covered.

  • Doctors and hospitals in network
  • Prescription coverage and pharmacy rules
  • Copays, coinsurance, and annual limits
  • Travel and out-of-area coverage

Who may prefer this route

Some people value coordinated benefits and a defined annual out-of-pocket maximum. Others prefer the provider flexibility of Original Medicare with a Medigap policy. Your doctors, prescriptions, budget, and travel needs matter.
