Medicare Supplement
Medicare Supplement Insurance
Medicare Supplement Insurance, also called Medigap, is sold by private insurers and helps pay certain out-of-pocket costs left by Original Medicare. It does not replace Part A or Part B and generally does not include prescription drug coverage.
Standardized benefits
In most states, policies with the same letter provide the same basic benefits, even though premiums and underwriting practices can differ by insurer. Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin standardize policies differently.
Enrollment timing matters
Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period generally begins when you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. Outside protected periods, an insurer may use medical underwriting where permitted.
